Petra Park Social Purpose & Surplus Reinvestment Policy

Adopted: at inception

First published; 19 August 2026

Purpose

Petra Park is a value-driven social enterprise. Its purpose is to help people and organisations perform, lead and develop in ways that are sustainable for human beings, communities and the natural world, while using the enterprise’s success to create wider social and environmental benefit.

Social and environmental objectives

Petra Park seeks to advance practical win-win solutions in which human wellbeing, organisational effectiveness, technology and the protection and restoration of nature reinforce rather than undermine one another. Its longer-term objectives include supporting wildlife rescue and rehabilitation; education in leadership, sustainable performance, change and win-win problem solving; and the responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI, to improve outcomes for people, animals and the environment.A long-term ambition is to help establish a physical centre bringing these strands together: wildlife rescue and rehabilitation alongside education, practical experimentation and responsible technology.

Surplus reinvestment commitment

Petra Park must first remain financially sustainable. Revenue may therefore be used to meet legitimate operating costs, taxes and liabilities, investment required to develop and deliver its services, and reasonable remuneration sufficient to provide a sustainable livelihood for its founder and for any people legitimately engaged by the enterprise.

After those requirements are met, Petra Park’s surpluses will be principally reinvested in furthering its social, environmental and animal-welfare objectives rather than being generated principally for private distribution. Reinvestment may include direct support for relevant charitable or community activity; wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and habitat protection; education and public-benefit projects; development of the future centre described above; and development or application of technologies and programmes that further these objectives.

How this commitment will be applied

  • Commercial decisions will consider social and environmental impact alongside financial sustainability

  • Where practical, Petra Park will seek solutions that create mutual benefit rather than treating human, organisational and environmental interests as automatically competing.

  • Claims about social or environmental impact will be evidence-based and proportionate; Petra Park will not claim outcomes it cannot substantiate.

  • This policy will be reviewed as the enterprise develops, while preserving the core commitment that surpluses are principally reinvested to advance its social, environmental and animal-welfare purposes.

Our ultimate vision:

This is our vision of what we might be contributing to 100–300 years from now. It does not preclude others from pursuing different visions.

We imagine humanity entering an age of abundance rather than competition: an era in which technological progress and human abundance — in creativity, medicine, science, exploration, fun and fulfilment, on Earth and in space — do not come at the expense of abundant wildlife and nature, but coexist with them, sustain them and protect them.

The idea is not that 1 + 1 has to equal 1.5, 1.2, or less.

The idea is that 1 + 1 can become 3, 5, or 10 — that together, humans, technology and nature can become more than the sum of their parts.

It may be an ambitious vision.

It may be an idealistic vision.

It may even seem a slightly crazy vision to some people.

But it is a beautiful one.
